IGNOU to offer course in PC hardware, networking

New Delhi:The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Sunday launched a certificate course in PC Hardware and Networking in association with HCL Infosystems Ltd, an official said.

‘It is a state-of-the-art industry ready course created jointly by IGNOU and HCL. This programme is to be offered in Instructor Led Teaching (ILT) mode,’ IGNOU chief public relations officer Ravi Mohan said.

Rajya Sabha passes bill to rebuild Nalanda University

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha Saturday passed a bill to re-establish the historic Nalanda University in Bihar as an international institute of learning.

The bill, which was introduced in the house last week, was passed in a special sitting Saturday.

The Nalanda University Bill, 2010, will establish a central university in Nalanda district of Bihar, on the lines of the ancient university which was founded there in 5th century AD and became a centre of learning for students from across South Asia.

IIT joint entrance on April 10

Kanpur: The IIT joint entrance examination (IIT-JEE) for the year 2011 will be held in April 10 and the format of the exam remains unchanged.

The test will conducted in the morning and evening. The morning test will begin from 7am to 12am while the evening test from 2pm to 5pm.

The decisions were taken at the IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) meeting held here and attended by directors or their representatives from all 15 IITs all over the country, IIT Kanpur director Sanjay Govind Dhande said.

Kochi: Co-operative Institute of Technology (CIT), Vadakara, has invited applications for admission to Master of Computer Applications (MCA) course, affiliated to Cochin University of Science & Technology (CUSAT), for the Academic Year 2010-11.

Any graduate with Mathematics as one of the main or subsidiary subjects or graduate in Electronics/Computer Science/Computer Applications/Engineering/Technology with aggregate 55% marks in all subjects other than languages and humanities and having CAT-2010 rank is eligible to apply for the course.

Admission shall be based on rank in the Common Admission Test (CAT)-2010 conducted by Cochin University of Science & Technology

Rush for single medical entrance

New Delhi: A single common entrance test for undergraduate and postgraduate medical colleges across India is expected to begin in 2011, an apex panel of doctors regulating medical education announced today.

The proposal has drawn criticism from within medical circles that have cited the wide variations in standards of different medical colleges.

But Shiv Kumar Sarin, the chairman of the six-member panel of doctors governing the Medical Council of India, said: “The health ministry has accepted the proposal — we expect a notification within a day or two. It may be called a national eligibility or entrance test.”

“This will provide some standards for entry into medical colleges,” Sarin added.

The panel had earlier this year proposed a common test for all 32,000 undergraduate and 13,000
