Woman held for duping employer by posing as man

Kollam: A 29-year-old woman who duped her employer and colleagues by posing as a man for several months was arrested here last evening.

Rani, who worked a collection agent for a marble wholesaler as 'Sreekanth', ended up in police custody after she allegedly committed a financial fraud, police said.

Hailing from a poor family, Rani managed to get the job in April last by appearing as a 'smart young man' in pants and slack with closely-cropped hair and a clean-shaven face.

She also produced a forged ID card showing the name as Sreekanth and fake certificates of her educational qualifications, in which the gender was identified as male.

The popular American TV programme “No Reservations”, in its sixth season, has reserved an entire episode for Kerala cuisine. Anthony Bourdain, the intrepid celebrity chef and host of the Discovery Travel channel’s culinary programme, shot the episode in the state. Culinary tourism is becoming popular with holidaymakers, especially the British, French and Americans, and an increasing number of tourists are trying out local food when travelling abroad. “When it comes to spices and variety, Kerala is right up there in my alley,” says Bourdain, 53, author of ‘A Cook’s Tour - In Search of the Perfect Meal’.

Moovattupuzha: One more person was arrested today in connection with the sensational attack on New Man College professor T J Joseph.


Police said the Special Investigation Team took Jamal (40) of Aluva into custody from Beemapally area in Thiruvananthapuram.

Sources said Jamal was learnt to have revealed that he was directly involved in attacking the teacher.

Jagathy not to endorse lottery

Kochi: Malayalam comedian Jagathy Sreekumar Saturday vowed not to endorse lottery tickets, a day after Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan urged celebrities to look into the merit of products promoted by them.

Speaking to reporters here, Jagathy, a veteran comedian who has acted in more than a thousand Malayalam films, said that he has decided to follow the advice of chief minister.

"I do get good money for endorsing lottery tickets of governments like Sikkim and Bhutan but after realizing that I am misleading many in Kerala, I have decided that henceforth I will not endorse lottery tickets," said Jagathy.

Kochi: A group of miscreants served off the right hand of Prof. TJ Joseph, the Malayalam Professor of Newman College, Thodupuzha, who  has been suspended following the controversy regarding the Malayalam question paper of  B.Com Second semester.

The controversy was triggered as the Malayalam question paper contained certain inappropriate remarks in a conversation between God and Mohammed Nabi in the section, 'Gadyavum Rachanayum'.

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran music director M.G. Radhakrishnan died here on Friday after prolonged illness. He was 70.
